THE HIGH SPEED RAIL AWARDED DURING THE OBASANJO ERA IS FINALLY OPEN FOR SERVICE IN MARCH

Nigeria’s first ever high speed train service will open for service in March 2016. It is the double-track, standard gauge between Abuja and Kaduna that runs at 120Km and 150 Km an hour. Come March, travelers will be able to journey from Abuja to Kaduna (and vice-versa) in less than an hour. The project which was just completed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) cost $849 million. The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Adeseyi Sijuwade while addressing the media in Lagos said “Next month, we’ll be taking delivery of modern coaches to run on the standard gauge line, specifically for the Abuja-Kaduna line, so that that service can commence immediately,” According to him, the corporation was looking at a February-March timeline to commence delivery of services. The rail project was supposedly completed in December 2014, but was never delivered. And even if the delivery is 15 months later than expected, it is good news that it finally works considering the fact that it has spanned nearly four administrations. Spanning from the Obasanjo administration to present, an active and efficient rail system has been marred for a long time by inefficiencies and corruption on a massive scale. As since the contract was awarded in the Obasanjo era, there has not been any positive move to see its fruition. Trains were originally designed to transport heavy duty goods like the goods ferried from the seaports on giant trailers that block and damage the road causing traffic gridlock. Some rail tracks have been rendered dysfunctional and unusable from the many years of being left idle. A working rail system is key to our messed up transportation system as roads would be eased off and traffic gridlocks become a thing of the past. The Lagos to Ibadan route was also commissioned in 2o1o with this Abuja-Kaduna route, as well as the Lagos to Calabar route. The government should also consider other routes that are frequently traveled and are heavily congested, like roads out of Lagos to other commercial hubs. The 186.5km standard gauge track was built by the China Railway Construction Corporation with double lines over a period of three years at the cost of $850m.
The route has nine stations and the train can travel at up to 150km per hour. “Next month, we’ll be taking delivery of modern coaches to run on the standard gauge line, specifically for the Abuja-Kaduna line, so that that service can commence immediately. We’re looking at February or March for the service to commence,” Sijuwade said. The Federal Government had previously approved a grant of N1.1bn for the purchase of two modern diesel/electric locomotives to run on the high speed new rail line. However, Sijuwade did not say if the two engines had been delivered by the contractors, Messrs CNR Locomotives and Rolling Stock Limited, and CCECC Nigeria Limited. According to media reports, the contract was for the design, manufacturing and launching of the locomotives with a capacity of 2,800 kilowatts for standard gauge tracks; the training of 30 NRC personnel on the operation and maintenance of the engines; test-running in Nigeria as well as a one-year maintenance and technical support with two resident technicians from the manufacturers.

It was rumoured that Lamar would be at the event after he was seen boarding a private jet from Los Angeles to New York City with Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Khloe on Wednesday night.

Lamar is still on the road to recovery after suffering multiple strokes when he collapsed at Love Ranch brothel on October 13 - with reports that he had a 50/50 chance of surviving.The sports star had allegedly been using cocaine and herbal Viagra during a four day binge and fell into a coma. $2.1BN SCAM: CHISOX!!! EFCC ARRESTS AMOSU'S WIFE, RECOVERS $1MILLION FROM SOAKAWAY PIT

Mrs Lara Amosu was arrested last week in Abuja and The sum of $1 million was discovered in a soakaway pit in Amosu’s Lagos residence. Amosu’s properties have been confiscated. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the wife of the immediate past Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Adesola Amosu (rtd) in relation to the ongoing investigation into the $2.1 billion arms procurement fund.


EFCC arrests Mrs Lara Amosu after N3 billion was traced to her bank accounts. It was reported that Mrs. Lara Amosu was arrested last week in Abuja by EFCC operatives, adding that she has been in the anti-graft custody in Lagos since last week. A source disclosed that Lara’s lawyer has been making attempts to secure her release but had not gotten any positive result. She was arrested after the sum of N3 billion was traced to her bank accounts. The money is believed to be part of the sum her husband is being probed for. The source further hinted that some properties belonging to the former CAS were also held in trust for him by Lara and her children. There were earlier reports that the anti-graft watch dog discovered a whooping sum of N17.5 billion in the accounts of wives of three airforce chiefs. The monies were reportedly disseminated in various banks accounts. A source acquainted with the ongoing arms probe disclosed that N13 billion was traced to the bank accounts of the wife of a retired Air Vice Marshal, who held strategic position in the Nigeria Air Force (NAF), adding that N1.5 billion was also discovered in the account of another serving senior officer. These officers handled the finance, budget and accounts of NAF. The source said: “Shortly after Amosu was picked up in Abuja, his wife, Lara, was subsequently arrested. Investigations conducted showed that some of the monies the former Chief of Air Staff made through some contracts and procurements in NAF were traced to his wife’s accounts. “About N3 billion was traced to the wife’s accounts while some assets acquired by the former service chief was in her name and some others in her company’s name. “So, Lara is an accessory to a crime. The proceeds with her are from the arms funds. As we prosecute her husband, she must also be held accountable.” It was gathered that the anti-graft agency pulled out the sum of $1 million cash from Amosu’s residence in Badagary, Lagos. The foreign currency was discovered when operatives carried out a search on the house. The source said: “In continuation of the investigation into the arms probe, the EFCC operatives took Amosu to his residence in Badagry. After a thorough search of the residence, a fresh small ‘soakaway’ pit was discovered in the compound. The operatives suspected foul play, which informed the breaking of the ‘soakaway’. Surprisingly, $1 million was found in it. The money was subsequently confiscated.” The EFCC arrested Amosu, Adigun, and Air Commodore O. Gbadebo two weeks ago over their involvement in the $2.1 billion arms scandal. It was gathered that the EFCC flew the indicted officers to Lagos in an airforce aircraft. They were allegedly discreetly kept in a hotel. The EFCC mobilised the indicted officers to assets traced to them and suspected to have been acquired with monies gotten from the arms deal. The anti-graft agency had sealed off some of the said properties. The Federal Government on November 30, 2015 directed the EFCC to prosecute the ex-CAS, who is also being investigated for over 10 NAF contracts totaling $930,500,690 awarded to Societe D’ Equipments Internationaux (SEI) Nig Ltd. between January 2014 and February 2015. The probe panel disclosed that the contacts award letters show misleading delivery dates, suggesting fraudulent intention in the award process. However, the EFCC had asked Amosu and others, who are still being detained over the $2.1bn arms deal, to refund some money or contract sums traced to them, but they have remained adamant.
