President Muhammadu Buhari has responded to the British Prime Minister, Mr. David Cameron, over his comment on Nigeria being one of the fantastically corrupt countries.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, on Wednesday quoted Buhari as saying he would not demand apology from Cameron for describing Nigeria as a “fantastically corrupt” country, rather, all he would demand from Cameron was the return of Nigeria’s stolen assets. Adesina on his Twitter handle quoted the president as saying, “PMB to UK: Am not going to demand any apology. All I’ll demand is return of our assets. What would I do with apology? I need something tangible,” Adesina wrote.

Corruption Allegations: SERAP Calls On UK Govt. To Extradite Alison-Madueke

Coming ahead of the International Anticorruption Summit in the UK, SERAP says the charges she is currently facing in UK court do not sufficiently capture the gravity of her alleged crimes, and the increasing allegations of corruption against her in Nigeria. The request followed announcement durithe week by the Central Bank of Nigeria that it was carrying out special investigations into the roles played by banks in certain financial transactions, especially the 23 billion Naira reportedly shared to officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by officials of the former President Goodluck Jonathan administration to influence the outcome of the last general elections. According the SERAP Executive Director, Adetokunbo Mumuni, “The anticorruption summit in London provides an important opportunity for the UK government to support the ongoing fight against corruption in Nigeria, and to send a powerful message that the UK will not provide sanctuary or condone impunity for corrupt public officials.” The statement reads: “As a state party to the UN Convention against Corruption, the UK government can use the convention as a basis for the extradition of Mrs Alison-Madueke back to Nigeria. “We urge the Nigerian authorities to without delay submit a request to the UK authorities for the extradition of Mrs Alison-Madueke, explicitly making the point that Nigeria will guarantee her a due process-trial.


“If the UK refuses extradition request, Nigeria should consider submitting the matter for arbitration and if this cannot resolve the case, refer it to the International Court of Justice for adjudication. The Nigerian authorities should also consider filing a civil action against Mrs Alison-Madueke in the UK court. “By sending Mrs Alison-Madueke back to her country, the UK will be sending a message that high-level official corruption will not go unpunished no matter where the suspected perpetrator hides and thus contribute to the fight against impunity for grand corruption. The UK indeed has an obligation to extradite Mrs Alison-Madueke through international cooperation and collaboration in good faith with Nigeria. “We believe that effective prosecution in Nigeria is feasible, and this will bring justice closer to Nigerians who are direct victims of corruption. Extraditing Mrs Alison-Madueke back to Nigeria is equally important for allowing easier access to witnesses, evidence, victims of corruption; creating a deep connection between Nigerians and the impact of the trial; and empowering victims of corruption.” “SERAP believes that there is probable cause that Mrs Alison-Madueke participated in the extraditable acts involving some banks in Nigeria, whether directly or indirectly. The allegations of corruption against her are strong enough for Prime Minister David Cameron to facilitate an extradition proceeding. .“The UK shouldn’t be a country of refuge for corrupt officials if it is to avoid a miscarriage of justice in high-level corruption cases. But if Mrs Alison-Madueke is not extradited, the UK will have a responsibility to amend her charges to include the fresh allegations against her and to try her on the merits under the UK laws as if she had committed the crimes there. “Mr Cameron risks missing an ‘open goal’ unless he shows that the UK is unreservedly committed to seeking justice for victims of corruption, and international cooperation in the fight against corruption by urgently facilitating the extradition of Mrs Alison-Madueke to Nigeria so that she can explain her role in the continuing disclosure of allegations of corruption and money laundering involving several Nigerian banks which allegedly took place during her time in office as petroleum minister. “SERAP is also concerned that UK banks continue to accept millions of pounds from corrupt Nigerian politicians. Without the complicity of these banks, it would be much harder for corrupt politicians including from Nigeria to loot public funds or accept bribes. “Therefore, in order to meet the requirements of the UN Convention against Corruption, Mr Cameron will need to do more to reform and crack down on his country’s financial institutions that continue to provide safe havens for corrupt funds from Nigeria with almost absolute impunity. “It’s also important for Mr Cameron to work towards improving judicial cooperation between Nigeria and the UK if stolen assets stashed in the UK are to be fully repatriated and if he is not to send a message that corrupt suspects can get away with their crimes without consequences.”

Ex-Aviation Minister Stella Oduah Stole N3.6b, Shared It Between 8 Companies

As Minister of Aviation, Ms. Oduah secured several multi-billion naira contracts to upgrade Nigeria’s 22 airports. It was later revealed that much of this money went into the minister’s pockets and that the program’s progress that she touted was grossly overstated. Documents made available to Sahara Reporters showed that of the 192 contracts awarded in the second phase of the program, only six were completed. Ms. Oduah first came under scrutiny after compelling the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to buy her two bulletproof BMW's valued at N255M. The minister was subsequently indicted by the House of Representatives and a presidential committee for violating the country’s procurement regulations. Ms. Oduah recently obtained an interim injunction preventing the EFCC from investigating, arresting, questioning, or prosecuting her. The injunction was granted by a controversial judge, Justice Mohammed Yunusa of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
However, Justice Okon Abang dismissed her injunction in February at a Federal High Court in Lagos, allowing the EFCC to commence the investigations into the N255m scandal.
With permission to investigate the minister, the anti-graft agency revealed that Ms. Oduah not only misallocated N255m to purchase her vehicles but also stole N3.6b and funneled it into eight companies she created for the purpose of money laundering

She explained how her looks have always haunted her. Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage’s husbandger, Teebillz, has reacted to the alleged crisis in his marriage, stating that no such thing exists. While denying the posts found on his Instagram page earlier today, he said all the utterances did not come from him, insisting that his account was hacked.Recall that earlier today, the social media went crazy with disturbing accusations made by Teebillz against the Mavin first lady. He called out to her on his Instagram account @teebillz323, saying that the marriage between him and the artiste whom he once managed was purportedly over. However, few hours after the social media rant, all the posts suggesting the abusive and provocative names Teebillz called Tiwa Savage were deleted from the Instagram account, @teebillz323. But following indications that the posts may have been obvious publicity stunt for Tiwa’s new album, Teebillz has created a new Twitter account: Tunji Balogun ‏@teebillzTEMP, which according to him was temporary. On his new account, Teebillz wrote: “All the comments that was being made are not true and are not written by me Tunji Balogun#teebillz. “All this writing is so not me. Read things I’ve written in the past, that’s not how I write. “I am in the process of getting back my account and have contacted the appropriate authorities. “This is a temporary account. My real account was hacked. #teebillz.”

Child birth almost changed my sex life –Tiwa Savage

Sensational singer, Tiwa Savage is certainly enjoying the joy of motherhood. Since she welcomed her tiny patter of tiny feet, Tiwa has been overjoyed and some might likely say she shifted all her attention to her tot, Jamal. In fact, in a recent chat with Saturday Beats, Tiwa admitted she diverted attention to her child but then she didn’t allow the love she has for her husband, Ill Bliss. “Initially when I gave birth to my son, the attention naturally shifted to Jamal because he would always wake up every two hours as such, you have to give him all the attention. Child birth may make your sex life not to be interesting any longer and it may change your sex life. You may have stretch marks in places you don’t like but eventually for the sake of your marriage, I would encourage every woman to look after their husband as well especially after having a child. “My husband and I have always been very good friends before marriage and we are still good friends. You have to know that you are living for someone else in a marriage so you cannot make selfish decisions. For example, if I need to make any important decision in my life, I need to consult my husband because he is the head of the family. Ultimately, I need to give him that respect because he has the final say,” she said. Tiwa said she cannot forget in a hurry a scary experience she had concerning her son. “The scariest moment I have faced as a mother was when I was in the delivery room and the doctor told me that the heart rate of my child had dropped and they had to do a quick suction to get his heart beating again. My happiest moment as a mother was the first moment I saw my son in the hospital,” she said. There were speculations that her fan base reduced drastically after her child birth. But she shut down the allegation saying, “Numbers do not lie, since I gave birth, my Instagram followers have increased to about 1.4 million and I have 1.5 million followers on twitter. I would actually say that my baby has been a blessing to me. It has not been easy but I have a handsome son and I would do whatever it takes and make any sacrifice to give him the best and that is why I am working hard in my career,” she said. Tiwa’s brief hiatus during her pregnancy and as a nursing mother, many would think, provided a vacuum that Jonny crooner, Yemi Alade, conveniently filled up. Now, Yemi is seen as one of Tiwa’s greatest rivals. Tiwa explained that it is only natural for two successful people to be compared but she denied having any rift with Yemi. She said, “I am aware about the comparison but it happens in any industry for artistes to be compared with their counterparts. We have the case of Davido and Wizkid, Beyonce and Rihanna, among others. It is just natural when you have two people doing great things. There is actually no beef between me and Yemi. “I love what she is doing and she also loves what I am doing. We do not have any collaboration together now and we are not working on any project but if it happens, God willing, I would be happy to be a part of it.

VP Osinbajo says FG to begin payment of N5k to the poor once the budget is signed

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says the Federal government will begin payment of the N5000 to the poor in Nigeria once the 2016 budget is signed by President Buhari. Osinbajo also disclosed that the government is also planning to train a minimum of 100, 000 young Nigerians in technology. Osinbajo disclosed this while speaking at the United Action for Change Town Hall Meeting at Ikeja Airport Hotel Lagos today April 23rd. What he said at the townhall meeting were tweeted by his Senior Special Assistant-Media&Publicity, Laolu Akande.

BUKOLA SARAKI TRANSFERRED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO US ACCOUNTS

He carried out the transactions through Guaranty Trust Bank between 2009, when he served as Kwara State governor, and 2012 when he served as the senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District. Prosecutors say the beneficiary accounts in the U.S. were also owned by Mr. Saraki. Some of the senator’s companies, during the same period, also transferred thousands of dollars to the U.S. accounts. The companies are Carlisle Properties and West Gate Ltd. Mr. Saraki is currently facing a 13-count charge bordering on corruption and false asset declaration at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. He allegedly committed the offence when he served as governor between 2003 and 2011. The politician has denied any wrongdoing and alleged political persecution. Of the 13-count charges filed against the senate president, two are related to the transfer of the $3.47 million. Count 11 of the charges filed against Mr. Saraki states: That you, DR. OLUBUKOLA ABUBAKAR SARAKI on or about 25th August, 2008 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Tribunal, while being a public officer as the Executive Governor of Kwara State did operate a bank account outside Nigeria when you transferred the sum of $73, 223.28 (Seventy Three Thousand, Two Hundred and Twenty-Three Thousand Dollars, Twenty-Eight cents) from your Guaranty Trust Bank Plc domiciliary account No 441441953210 to the American Express Services Europe Limited No: 730580 for onward credit to your American Express Bank, New York card account No:374588216836009 and you thereby committed an offence contrary to paragraph 3 of Part I, Fifth Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and Section 7 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act and punishable under paragraph 9 of the said Fifth Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and section 23 (2) of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act. Count 12 states: That you, DR. OLUBUKOLA ABUBAKAR SARAKI between August, 2009 and October 2012 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Tribunal, while being a public officer as the Executive Governor of Kwara State and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria did operate a bank account outside Nigeria when you transferred the aggregate sum of $3, 400, 000.00 (Three Million, Four Hundred Thousand Dollars) from your Guaranty Trust Bank Plc. domiciliary account No 441441953210 to the American Express Services Europe Limited no: 730580 for onward credit to your American Express Bank, New York card account No:374588216836009 and you thereby committed an offence contrary to paragraph 3 of Part I, Fifth Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and section 7 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act and punishable under paragraph 9 of the said Fifth Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and section 23 (2) of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act. When being cross examined by the defence counsel, Paul Usoro, at the Tribunal last Tuesday, the prosecution witness, Michael Wetkas, said Guaranty Trust Bank, GTB, told the investigation team that the transaction documents had been burnt. “There were also police reports and affidavit which they (the GTB) swore to show that some documents were burnt,” Mr. Wetkas stated. The document reportedly shows that Mr. Saraki, on August 26, 2009, transferred the $72,223.25 to the American Express Services Europe Limited no: 730580 for onward credit to the American Express Bank, New York card account No:374588216836009. Following the transfer, the bank charged him a commission of $732.23. That same day (August 26) one of his companies, Carlisle Properties Investment, transferred another $49,969.00. Between September 2009 and October 2012, Mr. Saraki transferred over $3 million. According to the document, in 2009 the senate president transferred $127,174.05 on September 8; $85,543.88 on October 21; and $127,586.41 on November 11. Aviation workers ground Arik Air’s operations over N12.4 billion debt

The operations of Nigeria’s largest indigenous airline, Arik Air, were disrupted by members of several aviation unions on Wednesday morning over an alleged N12.4 billion debt owed the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). Scores of passengers were left stranded at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Arik Air’s operational base in Lagos, as early as 6.30 am as placards-carrying unionists grounded the operation of the airline. Some of the passengers were seen demanding a refund from the airline staff while others were making alternative arrangements. According to a travel news website, the Nigerian Travel Flight Deck, the union members said they resorted to blocking the airline from operating this morning after years of negotiating with the airline over the debt failed to yield any result. Some of the placards have captions like: “Arik Pay Your 12.4bn Debt”, “FAAN can no longer pay salaries, pension, staff claims due to your debt.” “Debtors pay all you owe FAAN now.” “Arik if you can’t pay don’t fly”, “Arik pay your debt 12.4bn is too much.” The General Secretary of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) Olayinka Abioye, in a statement stated: “We are engaged in picketing exercise against Arik Air over its indebtedness to FAAN in the sum of N12.5b”. FAAN’s spokesperson, Yakubu Datti, confirmed the story and said he could not provide additional information as the action was a union affair. The spokesperson of Arik Air, Ola Banji also confirmed the claim that it owed FAAN N12.4 billion as “spurious”. He added that the airline was already challenging the claim of the union members at a Federal High Court in Lagos. He said by blocking its operations, the workers were taking laws into their hands. “The action by the workers’ union is connected with the long-standing and unsubstantiated claim by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) of spurious indebtedness of the airline to the agency which is now before a Federal High Court in Lagos at the instance of FAAN,” he said. “For several months, the management of Arik Air and FAAN have been meeting to reconcile payment accounts between the two institutions. The reconciliation process is still ongoing until the latest actions by the union. “This is not the first time that FAAN workers’ union will be taking the laws into their hands by disrupting operations of Arik Air. “The current situation is deeply out of control of Arik Air and the management of the airline has been compelled to suspend all domestic operations for today. This will remain in force until such a time the unfortunate situation is resolved.”

Already, the conditions for the repatriation of the cash and other details are being worked out. Also, it was learnt that the Department of Justice in the United States now has a Kleptocracy Unit, which assist to track looted funds and money laundered by public officials from Nigeria and other nations. According to The Nation, the planned repatriation is the outcome of the meeting between President Buhari’s Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission( EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu the Department of Justice. “The US is likely to advise on specific areas to spend the funds on and the project monitoring mechanisms. It does not want the cash re-looted.” In the source’s view, there is no hiding place for Nigerian treasury looters in the United States anymore. “The Federal Government and the U.S. on January 14, 2003 signed the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters between the two nations. Ltd/Ridley Group Limited – £56,962,996.26. It was learnt that the Abacha family had pledged to cooperate with the Federal Government.

Model, TV host and newly-minted cookbook author Chrissy Teigen and her husband, musician John Legend, welcomed their first child on Thursday, April 14, they announced via social media Sunday. “She’s here! Luna Simone Stephens, we are so in love with you! And sleepy. Very sleepy,” Teigen wrote alongside a snapshot of the baby’s weight — 6 lbs., 11 oz. — and dated Thursday.Legend also tweeted the happy news on Sunday, writing, “Our new love is here! Luna Simone Stephens, born on Thursday, the 14th. We couldn’t be happier!”  

Teigen, 30, shared her pregnancy news on Instagram in October after revealing that she was undergoing IVF in order to conceive. In February, she told PEOPLE exclusively that she chose a female embryo during the process, though they didn’t reveal the sex publicly until December. “I’ve made this decision,” Teigen said. “Not only am I having a girl, but I picked the girl from her little embryo. I picked her and was like, ‘Let’s put in the girl.’ ” For the couple, who married in 2013, their daughter will hopefully be the first of many. “The number of embryos we have left is not matching the number of people I want at my dinner table, so I’ll have to do it again,” Teigen told PEOPLE. “I wish I had frozen my eggs earlier. We have a few more on ice. Who knows what will work?”

PANAMA PAPER SCANDAL: BUKOLA SARAKI, DAVID MARK,JAMES IBORI, OTHERS AMONG NAMES LISTED

The Federal Government has opened a file on all Nigerians whose names have been mentioned in the Panama Papers as operating offshore accounts in notorious tax havens. Some of the individuals listed in the papers so far are the current Senate President, Bukola Saraki; and his predecessor, David Mark.Others listed include Africa’s richest man, Mr. Aliko Dangote; his cousin, Saayu Dantata, and a former Minister of Defence, Lt.Gen Theophilus Danjuma (retd.) It was learnt that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had been gathering reports from local and international media as well as the responses being given by those named. It was also learnt that the EFCC would then carry out its independent investigation and involve INTERPOL if necessary. German newspaper, Süddeutsche Zeitung, had last Sunday released the Panama Papers, the biggest leak in the history of data journalism, publishing online 11.5 million documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, which showed how some prominent people across the world criminally hid money using anonymous shell corporations across the world. The story began back in February 2015, with an article in Süddeutsche Zeitung that revealed the German newspaper had a slug of secret files about offshore companies on the books of the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca. Some 80 gigabytes of data about the firm’s customers had been received by the paper’s investigative reporters, Bastian Obermayer and Frederik Obermaier. The Panamanian law firm, regarded as one of the world’s most secretive companies, according to the documents, has helped clients launder money, dodge sanctions and evade tax. Already, the Nigerians involved have all denied complicity. In an exclusive report by online medium,Premium Times, it was alleged that about four assets belonging to the Saraki family, which included Girol Properties Ltd., Sandon Development Limited, and Landfield International Developments Ltd., were tucked away in secret offshore territories. For instance, the report stated that Girol Properties was registered on behalf of Toyin by Fonsecca on August 25, 2004, in the British Virgin Island, a year after her husband became the Governor of Kwara State. But the assets were allegedly not part of the ones declared by the Senate President or Toyin when Saraki became governor and after he was sworn in as the nation’s number three citizen. Similarly, at least eight offshore companies in the British Virgin Island have been linked to Senator Mark which he allegedly operated while holding public office, a criminal offence according to Nigerian laws. An impeccable source said the Federal Government was studying the body language of the international community and looking at how other countries were handling investigations. The source, who pleaded anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said, “We are studying the matter closely. In fact, we have opened a file and all reports are being gathered. “We want all the names to be released first before launching full investigations. The issue is a tricky one. After preliminary investigations, we will seek advice from the Office of the Attorney General because investigations of such nature will need foreign collaboration.”
